Sydney, Australia / Kerala, India – 26th February 2025 – The Migration Agency (TMA) has signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Kerala Development and Innovation Strategic Council (KDISC) and NORKA ROOTS (Non-resident Keralites Affairs) to create a direct pathway for skilled nurses and aged care workers from Kerala to Australia. The agreement was formalised at the Invest Kerala Summit and aims to address Australia’s ongoing shortage of healthcare professionals.
Under this strategic partnership, The Migration Agency will facilitate employment visa processes, ensure compliance requirements are met, and support upskilling initiatives for Indian healthcare professionals seeking opportunities in Australia.
“We’re thrilled to partner with KDISC to align Kerala’s skilled talent with Australia’s workforce, strengthening economic ties and driving innovation, growth, and sustainability across the NSW-India corridor,” said Sarah Thapa, Managing Director of The Migration Agency.
The signing ceremony was attended by representatives from the Australian Consulate-General, NSW Trade Commission, and the Kerala Government, highlighting the collaboration’s significance for international workforce mobility.
With demand for nurses and aged care workers in Australia expected to rise, Kerala’s strong education and training systems offer a highly skilled talent pool to help address these gaps. Through this agreement, The Migration Agency will work closely with Indian professionals and Australian employers to ensure seamless migration pathways, training support, and workforce integration.
Trade & Investment Commissioner, India, Malini Dutt, emphasized the importance of this partnership, stating, “NSW boasts a strong network of health precincts with world-renowned universities and medical research institutes, supported by a comprehensive health ecosystem. Westmead Health Precinct alone provides over 18,000 health jobs, a number expected to grow to 50,000 by 2036.”
The Migration Agency remains committed to expanding its Talent Mobility offering through further collaborations with government bodies, businesses, and industry leaders, ensuring a robust and sustainable workforce pipeline for Australia’s healthcare sector.
