Tamanna Hashemee’s journey into immigration law began with a simple desire to help people. Nearly a decade later, the same motivation drives her every day in her role as Client Service Director at The Migration Agency (TMA).
Accepting an opportunity to join TMA in 2022 reignited Tamanna’s passion for her field. “I was actually at a point where I’d stepped back from immigration law, but speaking with TMA got me interested again. It reminded me why I got into this work in the first place.”
Three and a half years on, Tamanna is a valued leader who plays a central role in the firm’s health and community sector partnerships.
Get to know Tamanna, her work, and why she finds TMA such a fulfilling place to grow her career:
What drew you to The Migration Agency?
I have been an immigration lawyer for almost ten years. I studied law and naturally gravitated towards immigration because it allowed me to make a meaningful impact on people’s lives. The role involves more than just legal advice because it touches on aspects of criminal, family and employment law, which keeps it incredibly interesting.
Before I joined TMA, I took the time to learn about the company’s values and culture, and I was excited to become part of the team.
What does a typical week look like for you?
No two weeks are ever the same. I split my time between client meetings, internal strategy sessions, leadership and working closely with our teams in Australia and the Philippines.
A standout part of my role is connecting with visa applicants from around the world via video calls – this personal touch really sets TMA apart and helps put people’s minds at ease about the application and migration process.
I also spend time with our clients onsite, helping them streamline their immigration programs and workforce planning. For example, in the healthcare sector, we’ve supported clients in hiring internationally qualified nurses, reducing their reliance on costly agency staff. It’s rewarding to see how my work as an immigration lawyer translates into real operational benefits for businesses.
Why do you enjoy working with The Migration Agency?
The people! TMA is a genuinely collaborative environment where everyone is supportive and driven. I’ve had the chance to visit and work alongside our team in the Philippines, which really deepened our connection and understanding of each other.
There’s also a real culture of celebration at TMA. We take time to recognise achievements and get to know each other outside the day-to-day. Whether it’s a team lunch or a big win, those shared moments make a big difference.
What recognition and awards have you enjoyed?
In 2022, I was named Employee of the Year, which came with the incredible reward of a trip to Japan. I chose to travel during cherry blossom season and spent three and a half weeks exploring the country, including more rural areas beyond the typical tourist trail. It was a beautiful and grounding experience, and a fantastic chance to take some time off work.
I have also received the TMA Values Champion award, which acknowledges someone who truly embodies the company’s values. The recognition meant a lot to me because it wasn’t just about outcomes, it was about how I have supported visa applicants, team members and clients.
This year I was promoted to the Client Service Director role, and I’m really enjoying it. I had the opportunity to participate in the Emerging Leaders program which has helped me define my leadership style and goals.
What are you looking forward to over the next 12 months?
Since stepping into the Client Service Director role earlier this year, I now lead our work in the health and allied health sectors, and I’m focused on building out this area even further. I lead a team of lawyers and paralegals to deliver exceptional service to clients, and I am involved in business development and growth initiatives of the firm.
TMA also supports clients in the corporate and technology sectors, and I’m excited to work alongside my fellow directors to strengthen those portfolios too. There’s always something new to explore, which keeps things fresh and motivating.
How do clients benefit from working with you and the TMA team?
At TMA, we make immigration as simple as possible. Clients only have to provide information once, and we take care of the rest. Whether it’s acting as an extension of their team or handling the process end-to-end, we adapt to what they need.
It’s not just about visa sponsorship applications. We support clients with broader workforce planning and talent strategy so they can be future-focused and proactively expand to match the needs of their market. Our goal is to lift the burden so businesses can focus on growth, knowing their immigration matters are in safe hands.
