The Migration Agency team is the lifeblood of the business. Part of what makes the company unique is the diversity of skills and backgrounds among employees. The company believe it’s important to invest in internal mobility so team members have the opportunity to grow in their careers and contribute their skills where they are most needed.
Executive support officer Ojaswee (pictured centre) originally worked in the recruitment division of Talent Global Group based in Nepal. She completed her education in northern India, is fluent in English and Hindi and assisted with the company’s expansion into India and Nepal. After joining Managing Director Sarah Thapa for a speaking tour in India and assisting with the company set up there, Ojaswee was invited to relocate to the Australian office to work with the executive team on international expansion and other key projects.
Hear from Ojaswee to get an insider’s perspective on The Migration Agency as a growing and ambitious team.
1. Tell us about how you came to work with The Migration Agency.
I used to work with the recruitment team of Global Talent Agency remotely out of Nepal. Sarah was visiting India for the NASSCOM and Investment NSW roadshow and I was invited to accompany Sarah as her ‘cultural attaché’.
We had great working chemistry during that intense roadshow, travelling to six Indian cities in six days. My role was to translate and manage event logistics, organise leads and follow up on business opportunities. One of the events was in Pune, which is where I completed my university studies, so I was able to help set up relevant meetings and start the process of our own office set-up.
Shortly after returning from India, Sarah offered me the position and we began my visa process and relocation to Sydney. I joined The Migration Agency in August 2022.
2. What is the best thing about working at The Migration Agency?
The culture here is positive and everyone is motivated to do better and be better. Another great thing about working here is the company values and how people align with these. It is a great place to be inspired to perform at my best and be more sincere with every task.
I am surrounded by smart individuals, so I have not ceased to learn since I began. Everyone in the team is ready to help no matter how occupied they might be. For this reason, there is a real sense of team spirit, which is hard to find.
Apart from the team dynamics, I think it is a really safe space. It also helps that we are led by an understanding and empathetic leader who takes into consideration everyone’s health, well-being and home life.
The environment at The Migration Agency inspires you to work hard. Also, I don’t feel like I am new to the country or the city because I am surrounded by a supportive group of people.
3. How would you describe TMA life and culture and why does it work for you?
Everyone is very aligned with the values we have – ‘Be WOW’, ‘Honesty & integrity’, ‘We have each other’s back’, ‘We get it sorted’, ‘People at heart’, and ‘Community impact’.
This helps me practise accountability and provides a really positive and collaborative environment. My workplace is incredibly flexible and accommodating with the fact that I am new to the country and looking for a place to live. This has probably been the biggest help as I settle in. I cannot imagine what it would be like to work at a place that did not consider such circumstances.
The Migration Agency really practises the idea of global mobility. They invest in their people and provide opportunities to move for work. There is a very strong sense of care across the company and its people, no matter where they are working.
